Cyber Day; Post 15

As discussed yesterday, we were instructed to write an essay question which would be used on the upcoming test. As a matter of fact, we were informed that our test (or at least part of it) is going to be during our class time this Thursday. Meaning we have a fair amount of time to study still; though, we expect to receive more information regarding the format of the test soon. My essay question and explanation is as follows:

As we discussed in class, Socrates was a man of austere philosophy and even gave his life for his beliefs. With that said, write a five-paragraph essay explaining the life Socrates, how, and why he was put to death. Starting with your first paragraph, describe the Socratic Method and some possible ways we see it reflected in our world today. For your second paragraph, describe Socrates' nature (personality) based upon how he thought, acted, taught others. And In your third paragraph, give a general overview of Socrates' crimes and how they contradict the Greek ways at the time. For your fourth paragraph, describe Socrates' punishment, Was it peaceful? Painful? Onto your fifth paragraph, give an honest and thoughtful opinion on Socrates' life, did he deserve death? Would you have died for your cause? This is an excellent paragraph to give any closing remarks as to if and how Socrates has impacted your way of life as well.

Explanation: Since I am personally astonished with the vast knowledge Socrates shared (and ultimately died for), I find it fitting to question my classmates on such a subject. Not only is our society today impacted greatly on how we question and revolutionize because of the way Socrates and his critical thinking but we also further learned to take ownership of our actions. Although it seems bizarre, Socrates never denied the claims that would put him to death;rather, in order to make a statement, he took ownership knowing he had broken laws for the better, which ended in his untimely and likely painful death.

With that said, I conclude my April 21st Blog Post and will go on to study for some time; Till next time, Stay Safe!

  1. This is a great topic for an essay question, Nick. To be clear, everyone is selecting their own topic, but I believe you will write a sensational essay on Socrates' life, death, and everything in between. Good luck!
